Darley Moor 3 National B Circuit Race – 31st March
At the third of the Darley Moor series Ben Ives had his best race of the season thus far. The opening laps featured the usual increased pace as the field sorted itself out, then, as the race started to settle, Ben jumped off the front of the pack to accompany an initial break of 4 riders. The break would eventually be joined by eighteen other riders. The break caused havoc down the field with gaps appearing everywhere.
The front group, including Ben Ives, worked well together throughout the race opening up a huge gap. As this gap continued to increase it was clear the break would succeed and tactics would come into play. Unfortunately some poor decision making (chess on wheels is hard to grasp) meant that Ben came home in 12th position. Alex making only his second appearance for We Love Mountains road race team would finish comfortably within the third bunch on the road.
Despite some obvious disappointment, Ben was pleased with his efforts. His race-pace and early season form continues to show increasing promise. Hopefully April will see Ben pick up his first win and really kick start his season and quest to acquire his 1st category British Cycling license.
